SUMMER 2014 BRIDGE PROGRAM
REQUIRED FOR ALL INCOMING 9th GRADERS
The Summer Bridge Gateway Academy Program offers students a unique opportunity for exposure to a multifaceted approach to learning. It offers students “rigorous and relevant experiences through activity-, project-, and problem-based learning. They will be able to combine current technology with critical thinking, creative ideas, and a collaborative work environment to become effective problem solvers in a modern society.
Through a curriculum that emphasizes hands-on learning experiences with the latest software used by today’s leading companies in areas such as robotics, flight and space technology, science and engineering, students will be able to utilize content learned in their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) to solve real world problems.
We held a mandatory Freshmen Orientation from on Saturday, June 21, 2014 from 10am-12pm. At this orientation, parents and students received information regarding the schedule of the bridge program and our school and filled out necessary forms to participate.
The 2014 Summer Bridge Program is running from Monday, August 4, 2014 to Friday, August 15, 2014 from 8:00am-1:30pm.
Students are attending three sessions a day from Monday-Thursday and a trip organized by Global Kids on Fridays:
Introduction to Gateway: This class is designed to help students explore math, science, and technology. This activity-oriented class will challenge and engage students through in-depth, hands-on activities.
Global Kids: This program includes interactive, fun workshops designed to prepare incoming 9th graders with the knowledge and skills to succeed in high school. We will also engage your child in leadership development and team building activities.
Introduction to Academic Skills: Students will learn how to conduct research, to cite academic texts/articles, and use various online programs for academics (i.e. Easy Bib, Google Drive, etc.). Students will also be introduced to Cornell note taking and study skills so they can be set for success when they enter 9th grade in September!
