PEER LEADERS

About the Peer Leaders Program

The Peer Leaders Program is for current 12th graders. Students are selected the end of their junior year after going through a rigorous application process meant to a mirror a college application process. Students are selected based on the following criteria:

  • completed application (which requires a typed personal essay and two teacher recommendation forms)

  • transcript (NOTE: We look that the student is on track for graduation. You DO NOT have to have the highest grades)

  • interview

  • leadership potential

Those who are selected attend a 4 day/3 night workshop at a college organized by College Summit. At this extensive workshop, students learn about the parts of the college application process and financial aid as well as draft personal statements. They are then responsible to help their peers through the application process and promote a school-wide college going culture team.

About College Summit

College Summit works with high schools to identify the most influential students in a class and train them to lead their peers to and through college. College Summit provides its schools with 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade curricula that focus students on planning for and financing their future after high school.
