BNY Mellon, is an American investment banking services holding company headquartered in New York City with $1.9 trillion of assets under management.  Students will have the opportunity to meet 3 women Banking Executives and learn how their career and education journeys evolved.

Financial Literacy Workshop

Facilitated by PENCIL staff and volunteers from different industries

Executives from Bombas and Lawyers Alliance of NY will provide an overview of basic banking structures and terms, highlight the different types of accounts (Savings, Checking, Credit) and its associated costs and purpose, and discuss best practices for managing a budget.  Student will gain insights into managing their own personal finances.

Career Panel – Technology

Facilitated by PENCIL staff and Infosys volunteers

Infosys is a global leader in next-generation digital services and consulting that enables its clients in 46 countries to navigate their digital transformation. Infosys team members from the Technology and Innovation Hub in Indiana, which serves as an innovation lab, showcasing new prototypes in virtual, augmented and robotic technology, will discuss how they assist clients to develop solutions to pressing business challenges. Panelists will offer insight on their day-to-day responsibilities, educational background and career experiences.

Career Panel – Asset Management

Facilitated by PENCIL staff and GoldenTree volunteers

GoldenTree is an employee owned asset management firm that has invested over $5 Billion in assets for its clients since 2003. Three (3) members of the GoldenTree team will join us to tell students about their career path and offer insight into their current role at GoldenTree. Students will have the opportunity to learn about our panelists’ college and internship experience as well as what it takes to succeed in the asset management industry.

Interviewing 101 Workshop

Facilitated by PENCIL staff and Bombas volunteers

Executives from Bombas, a comfort focused sock and apparel brand with a mission to help those in need – for every item purchased, a clothing item is donated -- will teach students effective interviewing skills to ace their interview.  Students will review basic components and expectations of the interview process, learn best practices to prepare for an interview, learn successful interviewing strategies and common errors.  Volunteers will also help students learn the STAR technique to craft responses to behavioral interview questions and review best practices for writing thank you notes and follow-up.

Anatomy of a Business Series – Digital Products

Facilitated by PENCIL staff and Saatva volunteer

Evan Huston, Chief Digital Product Officer at Saatva, will provide an overview of Digital Products.  Saatva is the internet’s premier luxury mattress and bedding brand founded on the principle that luxury sleep should be available to everyone.  Students will learn about the different roles and career opportunities within product development and the responsibilities a Chief Digital Product Officer has at an Inc. Magazine’s Top 500 Superstar Entrepreneurial company.

Career Panel – Diversity in FinTech

Facilitated by PENCIL staff and MarketAxess volunteers

MarketAxess is a fintech (financial technology) company that has created a marketplace that makes it easier to trade bonds—promoting price transparency, more competition and greater choice. With over 1,800 institutional participants on their platform, MarketAxess is transforming how the global fixed-income marketplace connects and transacts. Female and minority staff members from MarketAxess will discuss diversity in the workplace and offer insights on their experiences as minorities in the tech industry.

Students in every grade are enrolled in college advisory classes to learn academic skills needed for sucess and to learn about every step leading to the college application process. Juniors and seniors work on creating their resumes and personal statements and get individualized feedback. Seniors are walked through every step of college application and financial aid application processes.


As a part of the HSGC core curriculum, students are encouraged to further their knowledge of local and global issues as well as their own personal interests by taking part in semester long career readiness activities. The Careers in Focus program is made up of experiences such as career days, professional panels, job shadowing days and internships which serve to not only give students first hand knowledge of issues of concern to them, but will enable them to gain important professional experience and prepare them for the work world.
