Diversity & Equity Leadership Chat – Equality in the Workplace

 

1:1 Discussion with Michelle King

Students will hear from Michelle King, a globally recognized gender equality and organizational culture expert. Based on over a decade worth of research Michelle believes that to tackle inequality we need to fix workplace cultures so that they work for everyone. She is the host of a popular podcast called The Fix and recently released her book, “The Fix: Overcome the Invisible Barriers that are Holding Women Back at Work”.  Michelle is the founder of Equality Forward, a global consultancy that provides leaders with the assessment, development and inclusion coaching needed build cultures of equality at work. In addition, Michelle is a Senior Advisor to the UN Foundation’s Girl Up Campaign, where she leads the Next Gen Leadership Development Program, which enables young women to navigate and overcome the barriers to their success. Students will have an opportunity to engage Michelle in a conversation about equality in the workplace, the key actions men and women must take to lead and the future of equal workplaces.

Executives from GoldenTree Asset Management, a global asset management firm which specializes in the credit sectors, will teach students strategies for time and project management.  Student will learn how to break down projects, prioritize tasks, and identify resources.  Student will also learn effective strategies for collaboration and working as a team.

COLLEGE ADVISORY CLASSES 

Students in every grade are enrolled in college advisory classes to learn academic skills needed for sucess and to learn about every step leading to the college application process. Juniors and seniors work on creating their resumes and personal statements and get individualized feedback. Seniors are walked through every step of college application and financial aid application processes.

CAREER AND FOCUS PROGRAM 

As a part of the HSGC core curriculum, students are encouraged to further their knowledge of local and global issues as well as their own personal interests by taking part in semester long career readiness activities. The Careers in Focus program is made up of experiences such as career days, professional panels, job shadowing days and internships which serve to not only give students first hand knowledge of issues of concern to them, but will enable them to gain important professional experience and prepare them for the work world.
