Global Kids

Founded in 1989, Global Kids seeks to prepare urban youth to become global citizens and community leaders and ensure that young people of diverse backgrounds have the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to succeed in school and the workplace and participate in the shaping of public policy and international relations.

The organization accomplishes its goals through comprehensive programs in the classroom and after school that emphasize cooperative learning, collaborative problem-solving, global education, and academic improvement. Students in the classroom explore the relationships between their own, immediate experience, current domestic and international issues, and the required curriculum. Youth in Global Kids' leadership programs engage in the study of world and local issues and in intensive training to develop critical thinking, communication, and group facilitation skills.

Partnership with Children

Partnership with Children’s mission is to strengthen the emotional, social, and cognitive skills of at-risk children so that they can succeed in school, in society, and in their lives.  What started as a volunteer mentoring program for troubled girls has evolved to provide a full array of critical services for over 8,000 boys and girls who face daunting problems in their lives. Today we serve children in elementary, middle and high schools in every borough of New York City with 16 schools in all.

The program at High School for Global Citizenship is the Open Heart-Open Mind: Partnership with Children’s unique school based Open Heart-Open Mind program places social work teams within participating schools on a full-time, permanent basis, seamlessly integrating our staff into the school community. The program and staff supports the “whole child” and key participants in his or her development including family, teachers, and administrators. We collaborate with these stakeholders to identify children in need of services.

Open Heart-Open Mind utilizes a variety of modalities to achieve its goals, including:

·         Individual counseling and crisis intervention

·         Small group counseling (Boys/Girls Group, Peer Mediation, Job Readiness)

·         Whole classroom intervention

·         Home visits and family case management

·         Teacher support and collaboration

·         School-wide activities

·         School management participation
