FDNY Exam Applications Available Now!!! The Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) announced the filing dates for the Open Competitive Examination for Firefighter (Examination No. 2000) exam shall take place from July 15, 2011 through September 15, 2011. Computer based examinations will take place on multiple dates between January 3, 2012 and February 3, 2012. Read all info on the notice of examination prior to filing. For applications and further information, visit the DCAS website located: HERE. When To Apply: July 15, 2011 through September 15, 2011 Application Fee: $30.00 if you submit a paper application and/or pay by money order $25.00 if you pay online by credit card, bank card or debit card Age Requirement: Pursuant to Section 54 of the New York Civil Service Law and Section 15-103 of the Administrative Code, you must be at least 17 1/2 years of age by the end of the application period and, except as noted below, you must not have reached your 29th birthday by the beginning of the application period to be eligible to take this examination. However, you must have reached your 21st birthday to be eligible for appointment. Exceptions to Age Requirement: Candidates who took Firefighter, Exam Nos. 6019 and 6506 must not have reached their 36th birthday by the beginning of the application period to be eligible to take this examination. Candidates on Special Military Lists for Firefighter, Exam No. 2043 in existence on or after July 22, 2009, must not have reached their 36th birthday by the beginning of the application period to be eligible to take this examination. All persons who were engaged in military duty as defined in Section 243 of the New York State Military Law (including candidates on the lists noted above) may deduct from their actual age the length of time spent in such military duty up to a maximum deduction of six years. |

HSGC at the United NationsOn Tuesday December 21st, over 30 HSGC youth were among young people from around the world meeting with the United Nations Security Council. The meeting was meant to shed light on issues brought up by youth from around the world regarding peace and security. Read all about the meeting and view the entire webcast here : UN Youth MeetingAfter the meeting with Ambassadors from the countries of Nigeria, Uganda, Gabon, Austria and China-- just to name a few, students got to a Pizza Party with US Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice. Among the honored guests at the party was High School Musical's Monique Coleman who is the Youth Champion for the United Nations International Year of Youth. |

Program @ HSGC!
What is it?
The Bardoli Global
Scholars Program is aimed at providing international education,
service-learning, professional and leadership development opportunities for
outstanding and high potential African American, Latino, and Native American
youth, with an emphasis on serving students from economically disadvantaged
backgrounds who attend high needs public schools. The 2010-2011
Bardoli Global Scholars Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State
through the American Youth Leadership Program.
What will you do? • Go through training and workshop in Spring 2011 to get you ready to travel • Travel to KENYA in August 2011 to work on a technology project with local youth • Return to HSGC and participate in a Global Leadership Academy during 2011-2012 • Engage in service-learning projects that enable you to share your knowledge!
Who is this program for? • Current HSGC Sophomores or Juniors
• Students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher • Students wiht an interest in the sciences, technology and international travel How do you sign up? • Ask a teacher or staff person to nominate you!
